Sedation Dentistry

common procedures

At Trade Winds Dental, we understand that, for many of our patients, a trip to our office may cause anxiety. If you experience a fear of the dentist, there are many sedation options available to make your next visit comfortable and relaxing.

Sedation dentistry is an effective method of managing pain and anxiety during professional dental care through the use of medication. The two most common types of sedation dentistry are oral conscious sedation and inhalation sedation.

Oral Conscious Sedation

  • Oral conscious sedation involves the administration of an oral medication, like Halcion (triazolam). Since you remain conscious, you will be able to speak and answer questions, but will be in a deep state of relaxation.

Inhalation Sedation

  • The most popular form of sedation dentistry is inhalation sedation. Often referred to as laughing gas, inhalation sedation uses Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen to help you become relaxed.

Is sedation dentistry is right for you?

If you experience any of the following symptoms, be sure to ask Dr. Hennington or a member of our staff about our sedation options:

  • High fear of dental care
  • Complex dental problems
  • Traumatic dental experiences
  • Fear of needles and shots
  • Trouble getting numb
  • Sensitive teeth
